Printers are set up a little strange, but it works on most platforms. Try this for the color printer:

Connect to server: smb://athena.aoe.vt.edu/softdist (use your AOE account password.)
copy to desktop: Drivers/C350_MacOSX/English/Printer Drivers/Printer/Descriptions/Fiery X3e 22C-KM PS v2.0
Then set the printer up with these settings:
  Protocol: LDP
  Address: 128.173.188.32
  Queue: WorkroomColor
Print using: Fiery X3e 22C-KM PS Color Server v2.0
The following Installable Options seem to work, though there may be better ones:
Optional Trays: Universal Cassets (Tray 3,4)
  Duplex Option: checked
  Finisher Option: Single Staple Finisher
Engine Storage Option: Extension Memory and Hard Disk Drive
  Auto Trapping: checked

For the BW, I usually use this:

  Protocol: LDP
  Address: 128.173.188.32
  Queue: WorkroomBW
  Print using: Default Postscript

installing software on MAC

  • GO to server /softdist
  • find the .dmg file, which is the MAC .iso
  • On version 10.3 and lower, the file must be local to install, so copy it to
  • the desktop, otherwise, it will install from the file.
  • To install, double click the .dmg file.
  • From window that opens, drag and drop on 'applications'.
  • start the application to register the stuff.

ctrl click is right click

right click the icon on the dock and select 'keep on dock' or drag the app to the dock to keep a shortcut.

Mac passwords are usually local. No group policy applies to Macs.

Mac laptops are not usually in domain because it will not cache passwords.

To get fedora core PPC to work on a mac with a new hard drive, first boot the mac OS-X install cd and format the disk; anything should work. Don't go any further, just quit the install. Now Boot the fedora install CD. Specify partition information, and delete all but the first partition. Then install as needed.

Still, it complains on boot once the install is completed, but fedora finds iself.

During the Mac OS-X insall, after doing the above partition, before restarting, the installer will not recognize the newly partitioned drive until it has rebooted.
